What is rikaikun

rikaikun is a browser extension that shows the reading and English definition of Japanese words when hovering over Japanese text

It includes features such as switching between word, names, and Kanji dictionaries, enabling text-to-speech for Japanese words, copying words and definitions for flashcards, and customizing the pop-up dictionary appearance

The extension is activated by clicking the designated icon and provides translations in a pop-up when hovering over Japanese words

Enormously helpful extension. At some point, when language-learning, textbooks stop becoming useful and you just need to read constantly, and this is an indispensable tool. That said, several very basic flaws that severely damage its functionality. 1) It never automatically loads upon start-up. 2) It insists on copy-pasting a definition (rather than the actual text), when I have never wanted to do that. This is my favorite extension that does what this does. However, it doesn't work properly on Google Docs (it only analyzes single characters), and works weirdly in general in text fields, like Google Translate (doesn't seem to know exactly where characters really are). Also, C as non-changeable shortcut for copying sucks big time, because sometimes I want to copy the selected text, and it copies the entry. Excellent app. A wall I had in learning Japanese was my vocabulary. Having this app installed allows me to practice reading in context without having to use an online dictionary like Jisho every 5 seconds. It is not 100% flawless. Just wanted to make sure that is known, Ctrl+C will take the whole dictionary definition instead of the highlighted text.
